Topic #9

        As the semester is coming to and end, i have concluded that i have not achieved the goals i had planned to do. My entire focus was channeled on finding my path for the upcoming semesters. My entire semester was focused on admission issues i suffered for about 8 weeks. Although i finally processed all i wanted to complete. i do not feel that i fulfilled all what i can accomplish. Hopefully, by next semester i will have much more time to organize what i want to do. Coming to an end, i would like to state that i do not regret the decision of taking a semester in the ALP. i have met great people, been taught by great teachers, and received great amounts of experience. The most important lesson i have learned from the past 4 months is the lesson of " Time Management". Unfortunately, this lesson was taught the hard way, due to unreasonable mistakes.

Senses

         This particular question might have raised a couple of eyebrows, where no one would find it easy to choose a sense to disgard. The five senses are sight, hearing, smelling, touch, and taste. If i were too choose which sense i were to lose, i would choose the sense of smelling. The fact is, we cannot control what smells we come upon, unlike the senses of sight,and taste where we can have some kind of control on them, My point is, smelling is a two faced sense. It is either you catch a nice whiff or catch a bad unpleasant smell.Smelling is the only sense where you cannot fully conrol. A person can eat what he wants to eat, tastes what he wants to taste,sees what he wants to see and touches whatever he wants to touch. Hearing is applied at some degree. However, smelling can be controlled at some point, but you never know when you might come upon a bad smell, this is where the uncontrollable happens. I believe that losing the sense of smell is the most durable loss, compared to the rest of the senses

What would you un-invent?

       If it were up to me, i would un-invent territories. The un-invention of territories would lead all human beings to live in one land. One world. Many advantages can be produced if we were all to live in one land.

     First off, the most important plus point from living in one land and the un-inventing of territories is that people will no longer be judgmental considering where a person is from, now that we all live in one lag. One nation. Also, wars for territories and land will no longer exist, thus eliminating most wars. Another advantage from un-inventing territories is that, the amount of poverty and third world countries will reduce massively. Now that we are all in one land.

      The idea of living in one world where all people are equal, where all people share one land is truly fascinating. However this idea or imagination will never come true. Unfortunately, not all people have the same gaol and share the same visualization that i do. Just picture this, the whole world would be your native land. What experiences would you go through ? If you were to have a vacation, what would be your destination ? Mine would be " anywhere."

Time Travel

Time Travel

             If I were to go back in time and relive something that happened, or something that occurred; I would go back to July 21st, 1969 to witness the moment where Neil Armstrong landed on the moon. He became the first man in history to step food on the moon. I am very fascinated with how much technology can take us. Who would of thought that a human being can actually take steps on the  moon. Let alone it was 43 years ago. What will happen in 50 years ?


            The thought of changing or altering something in that event has crossed my mind. I would change the fact that he was the 1st one to take steps in the moon. I would like if he was with another person at the same time. Two people share that moment. Preferably a Saudi Arabian. Other than that, i would not change a thing. History is made and written for a reason. It is destiny and it should not be altered.

Topic #4

 The fact that someone can be able to change a element in his physical appearance is rather intriguing to myself. If i were to change anything in my appearance, i would change my body type. I would like to be much more athletic and fit. Going to the gym has helped a lot, but has not fully completed what i hoped to achieve.

       
              To be exact, i would like to gain a good amount of muscle and decrease the amounts of fat. Being a student studying abroad is tough , let alone having the need to go to the gym. Nonetheless, i still have time. It would have been much easier to build the best body and be in the best shape , if i hadn't gained a massive amount of weight as a child. If it were up to me, i would go back in time and rearrange my diet and lifestyle. Fast Food would be a " No No ". Vegetables and fruits would be a primary element in my diet. Daily! However, life does not go how you want it to go. We learn from mistakes, and we move on. I have learned so much from my mistakes, I am thinking of doing some more.

Topic #3

My family and I have been going to spain every summer for a while now. From the 1st day i stepped foot in spain, i was hooked to their language. Their soft tender letters, to their attention grabbing words , and their beautiful mind melting conversations. Spanish has and always will be my favorite language. Learing spanish has always been an idea worth fighting for in my prospective, but the fact is, i dont have the time to learn a complete new language. Let alone the fact that i speak some spanish. Sometimes i can understand what native speakers are saying, but i cant respond. I would probably say that i speak 30% spanish.

If i were to learn spanish, i would fulfil a goal i have always wanted to achieve. Perhaps i should learn in my free time , such as vacations.

Topic #2

The expectations for every newly graduated student going to California are very high. For what we have seen in movies , news , books , and magazines. The picture of California is bright and clear for nearly anyone on this planet. The palm trees , the gorgeous weather, the amazing beaches, and most especially the nice and beautiful people.

    
      My expectations were fullfilled the moment i stepped out of the aiport. I felt as if i was in the place i was supposed to be, the place i fit in. The smooth breeze blowing threw my shirt, giving  a calm and soothing feeling to my mind and body. I hopped on the bus , and was on my way to check out the city and what it holds. I loved every moment in California since i have been here. In my opinion, no place on earth can top California , and what is brings to us , from joy and happiness and the relief of life . I might be pushing my luck here , but the lifestyle i am living now, is a drastic change of what i used to live back home in Saudi Arabia.

 
     I would also like to declare that, the books , magazines , papers and above all the shows and movies we have  gave us too much of Califonia's lifestyle, To the limit that it is not true. I mean , dont get me wrong. I love California , but its not all surfing and partying and having a great time here, like what they show us in movies and in TV shows. People live there lives here and spend thier daily routines here.

Pet Peeves

          Pet peeves are among us everywhere anywhere. Pet peeves are actions that annoy and make people incomfortable. Pet peeves can also define a person and what he or she dislikes. People whom like food are annoyed by the people who chew aloud or in a unpolite matter. They consider that as a pet peeve. Some dislike driving. Who can blame them with all the traffic that has been increasing daily. Traffic can also be a pet peeve for them.

          The other day i was watching a football match between two fierce rivals. Barcelona vs Real Madrid. I go so crazy sometimes that i can consider myself living in my own world during that game. I isolate myself and stay away from everone. I stay at a different state of mind during a game between these two. Mentioning this, i can explain what my number one pet peeve is. Distracting me while the game is going. I get so angry that i suddenly exlpode. I hate the fact that it effects me. My friends always make fun at how serious this game is for me. Distractions can be very diffenerent. Eating aloud, starting random conversations, talking on the phone are all considered major pet peeves for me.

          Now that i have mentioned one pet peeve. I would like to state that it is my only pet peeve. I can get annoyed by something somewhere, but i don't consider them as pet peeves. Pet peeves stay with you for a while and keep staying with you. I personally dont look for pet peeves. Let a person be, as long as the pet peeve does not effect me personally, I am fine with it. I deal with it as if it was a part of my day. I can be very patient with the annoying things that occur to me. Aside to distractions during my game , let it rip !

My story

 

    My name is Abdullah Altoukhi. I come from a humble family of four. My father, Khaled, my mother , Areej and a lovely little sister whom i adore , Mira. I am a huge soccer fan, i have unbelievable love for this sport. Although i'm not that good in playing it, but it is my favorite to watch. My favorite soccer club is FC Barcelona. I have been a huge fan of Barcelona for many many years. Aside to soccer, i love playing basketball. I have been playing basketball since the tender age of 10 years old.


    The story of me coming to the united states to study , began when i received my 11th grade report card. At the time i had finished my 11th year with an average of 84%. I told my parents while giving them the report that i wanted to study abroad. They asked me where ? I responded with " The land and home of the brave". My parents laughed for a couple of seconds, then told me that they would think about it. The next day my parents walked up to my room and told me with great detail that if i was to leave to study abroad i should have a 99% average in my senior year. I tried decreasing the requested percentage but they were determined to stick to 99#. The following year, i put my mind to it , lifted my grades up, stopped partying, and graduated with  98% average. My parents agreed to send me to the states with great pleasure and relief, even though i did not fully complete their task.


   I truly believe this is what i was destined for, and this is what's better for me, no matter how hard it gets. I am really excited for what is coming towards me. I am ambitious and ready to go.
